Lake Boondooma is a fishing paradise, located on the Boyne River a little more than 15km from Proston.

Boondooma Dam - built across the Boyne River in the early 1980s to supply water for Tarong Power Station - has quickly become one of the most popular recreational fishing spots in South East Queensland.

Boondooma Dam boasts an ultra-modern $900,000 camping ground with self-contained cabins and caravan park facilities was officially opened on the foreshores of Lake Boondooma on the 8th December 2001.

If you are looking for a relaxing weekend or even longer, Lake Boondooma is just the stress relief you have been looking for. Bring the caravan, tent or treat yourself to a comfortable cabin, launch your boat on stable maintained boat ramps and prepare for fishing excellence.

Peaceful Lake Boondooma is paradise for anglers, campers, bird watchers and water sports enthusiasts. The 1,900 hectare dam was purpose-built across the Boyne River in 1983 to provide a water supply to the Tarong Power Station. A mix of 200,000 golden perch (yellowbelly), silver perch and Australian bass fingerlings are released annually into the dam, making it one of the most popular and consistent inland camping and fishing spots in South East Queensland. Sign up for the Boondooma Fishing Competition held each February or try your skill at numerous freshwater catch and release tournaments during the year. Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park, on the foreshores of the dam, offers caravan and camping sites, a bunkhouse and cabins along with tennis courts, modern amenities blocks, a kiosk and landscaped picnic and barbecue areas. You can see one of the oldest settlements in the area, just a short drive away at Durong. Historic Boondooma Homestead (circa 1850) and a cluster of historical buildings have been authentically restored and are open daily....

Boondooma Homestead represents a step back to 1847 when the Lawson brothers along with Robert Alexander established the Boondooma Station. The homestead and outbuildings are still in their original location and onsite caretakers are available to provide you with a guided tour if required. Stay for a day or camp for a while in our beautifully kept grounds. The annual "Spirit of the Bush" Balladeers and Heritage Muster takes place at Boondooma Homestead the fourth week in April including an ANZAC day service. All home grown Aussie talent and performers. "Scots in the Bush" is another festival at Boondooma and held on the third weekend in August of each year. Once a country locality known for its diary products, Proston, just north of Wondai in the South Burnett, is now a major growing area for duboisia - a native tree valued for its pharmaceutical properties. The Proston Show and Campdraft is held over three days each March. On-site camping and adventure tracks for four-wheel driving enthusiasts are available at Manar Tourist Park on the Boyne River, around an hour from Lake Boondooma.
